Question

Beijing Maternity Allowance 2026 New Policy‌

Answer
Q: Will Beijing's maternity allowance still be first transferred to the company account?
A: Starting January 31, 2026, for eligible insured female employees, maternity allowance will be directly paid to their personal bank accounts, no longer routed through the employer.

Q: Has the continuous contribution requirement for claiming maternity allowance changed?
A: The requirement remains the same. Those who have continuously paid maternity insurance for 9 months before delivery can claim directly. If less than 9 months, they must continuously pay for 12 months after delivery.

Q: If maternity allowance is paid directly to individuals, does the company still need to pay wages during maternity leave?
A: Yes. The "higher amount applies" rule still applies. If the maternity allowance is lower than the employee's pre-leave salary, the employer must make up the difference.

Q: Can flexible employees claim maternity allowance?
A: Currently, only insured employees who participate in maternity insurance as required can claim. Regular flexible workers can reimburse maternity medical expenses but cannot yet claim maternity allowance.

Q: Can unemployed persons receiving benefits claim maternity allowance?
A: Female unemployed persons who give birth while receiving unemployment insurance benefits can claim maternity allowance if they meet relevant conditions, and it will also be paid directly to their personal accounts.
