Spouse Claiming Survivor Pension Benefits

Q: At what age can a spouse claim survivor pension benefits? What are the requirements?
A: The marriage must still exist on the insured person’s date of death, and the total duration of the marriage must be at least one year:
  1. Aged 55 or older
  2. Aged 45 but under 55, and earning a monthly income not exceeding the minimum wage.

Q: Can a spouse with a severe or above disability certificate claim survivor pension benefits?
A: Yes, but the spouse must be unemployed or not enrolled in social insurance.

Q: Can a spouse supporting children in school receive survivor pension benefits?
A: Yes, as long as the children are minors, or are adults under 25 who are still in school and whose monthly work income does not exceed the minimum wage.

Q: Under what circumstances will survivor pension payments to a spouse be stopped?
A: If the original qualifying conditions no longer exist and the spouse does not meet any other eligibility criteria, the survivor pension will be discontinued

Q: If a spouse meets the eligibility requirements, under what circumstances will survivor pension payments be stopped?
A: Survivor pension payments will also be discontinued if the spouse:
  1. Remarries
  2. Is imprisoned
  3. Goes missing
  4. Passes away
