Question

Guidelines for Multiple Recipients of Funeral Benefits

Answer
Q: How many individuals may claim funeral benefits?
A: Funeral benefits may be claimed by only one individual.

Q: If more than one person has paid the funeral expenses, how can the funeral benefits be claimed?
A: If more than one individual applies for the benefit before it is issued by the Bureau of Labor Insurance, the Bureau will provide written notice to all applicants, requiring them to reach an agreement within a specified period to designate one individual as the representative claimant.

Q: If those who paid the funeral expenses fail to reach an agreement within the prescribed period, how will the funeral benefits be disbursed?
A: If no agreement is reached within the prescribed period, the Bureau of Labor Insurance will distribute the benefits equally among all applicants.

Q: If one person has already claimed the funeral benefits, what can others who also paid the funeral expenses do?
A: If the Bureau of Labor Insurance has already issued the benefits, those who also paid the funeral expenses must negotiate directly with the individual who claimed the funeral benefits.

Q: I am an insured person under the National Pension program. If my family member, who is not insured under the National Pension, passes away, can I apply for funeral benefits?
A: No. Funeral benefits may only be claimed if the deceased was an insured person under the National Pension program at the time of death, and only by the individual(s) who paid the funeral expenses.
