Public Holidays in China

1.      Public Holidays Applicable to All Citizens

According to the Regulation on Public Holidays for National Annual Festivals and Memorial Days of the PRC, the following holidays are applicable to all Chinese citizens.

(1)  
Having a one-day holiday for New Year’s Day, (January 1);

(2)  
Having a three-day holiday for Spring Festival (The New Year’s Eve of the lunar year, the first two days of the lunar year);

(3)  
Having a one-day holiday for Qingming Festival (The lunar Qingming Day);

(4)  
Having a one-day holiday for Labour Day (May 1);

(5)  
Having a one-day holiday for Dragon Boat Festival (The Dragon Boat Day of the lunar year);

(6)  
Having one-day holiday for Mid-Autumn Festival (The Mid-Autumn Day of the lunar year); and

(7)
Having a three-day holiday for National Day (October 1, 2 and 3).

If the above holidays fall on Saturday or Sunday, a compensatory time off shall be given on a workday.

2.       Public Holidays Applicable to Specific Citizens

(1)  
Women’s Day (March 8), a half-day holiday for all women;

(2)
Youth Day (May 4), a half-day holiday for youth at or above 14 years old;

(3)
Children’s Day (June 1), a one-day holiday for teenagers and children under 14 years old;

(4)
Memorial Day for the found of the People’s Liberation Army (August 1), a half-day holiday for military personnel in active service.
  
If the above holidays fall on Saturday or Sunday, no compensatory time off will be given.
