Simplify Your Personal Tax Reliefs in Malaysia With e-Invoice

The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (“IRBM”) has announced that taxpayers are encouraged to request an e-Invoice for every expenditure transaction that qualifies for individual tax reliefs.

This initiative is a key pillar of IRBM’s broader strategy to enhance Malaysia’s digital tax ecosystem, streamlining tax compliance through the phased implementation of e-Invoicing.

  1. The Pre-Filling Initiative

This proactive measure services as a pilot project for the pre-filling of tax relief information into the Income Tax Return Form. Based on validated e-Invoice data, this automation will take effect starting from Year of Assessment 2026.

  2. Potentially Pre-filled Relief

Taxpayers is encouraged to obtain e-Invoices for the following potentially pre-filled relief which include, but not limited to:
    • Lifestyle relief: Purchase of personal computers, smartphones, books etc.
    • Medical and life insurance
    • Childcare centre fees
    • Other categories: Various other relief categories as determined by tax regulations

  3. E-Invoice Issuance Requirement

To ensure an e-Invoice is issued accurately, purchasers must provide the seller with their:
    • Tax Identification Number (TIN No.); or
    • Identification Number (MyKad / Passport).

  4. Digital Record Management

The use of e-Invoicing enables taxpayers in record-keeping and management. All transaction details and tax relief records can be reviewed digitally via the MyInvois Portal.
