Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1:If I qualify for Online Entry Permit application, can I also apply for an Entry Permit on Arrival?
A:Yes, but it is better to apply online first. This avoids extra waiting time, additional costs, and the risk of being refused entry if requirements are not met.
Q2:I used to enter Taiwan with a foreign passport, for example an Australian passport, but it has expired. Can I now use my Hong Kong or Macau SAR passport instead?
A:No. Your past records already classify you as a foreign national. To switch to a Hong Kong or Macau status, you must provide proof of renouncing your foreign nationality before applying with a SAR passport.
Q3:I was born in Mainland China but hold a Hong Kong Permanent Resident ID and Hong Kong SAR passport. I never applied for a Home Return Permit and still have a PRC passport. Can I apply as a Hong Kong resident?
A:No. Mainland-born applicants without a Home Return Permit or proof of household deregistration in Mainland China must still apply as Mainland Chinese residents.
Important Reminder
Your Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR must be valid for at least 3 months when entering Taiwan.
