Q: What kind of visa and license do expatriates need to obtain when working in Beijing?
A: Pursuant to the Entry and Exit Administration Law of P. R. China, expatriates working in China shall obtain work permit and work-related residence permit.

Q:
What are the requirements foreigners need to meet for applying work permit in Beijing?
A:
They need to meet the following criteria:
  • Between 18 to 60 year’s old, in healthy status and no criminal record
  • With bachelor’s degree or above and more than two years’ working experience in related field
  • With necessary professional skills and knowledge to be competent for the job offered by the Beijing employing company
  • The work is in line with the economic and social development needs of China and the applicant is urgently needed professionals

There are no restrictions on age, educational background and work experience for foreign high-end talents.

What conditions do the employing company need to satisfy?
A:
The employing company must meet the following requirements:
  • It shall be established according to the law and has no serious violation of the laws or discredited record, in case business activities require pre-approval from the competent authorities of the industry, approval must be obtained.
  • The salaries and wages of the foreigners shall be no less than the minimum salary standards of Beijing and shall match with the position offered to the foreigners.

How long does it take for work permit application?
A:
Around 20 working days.

Is physical presence of the expatriate required for application of work permit?
A:
No.

Q:
What materials do expatriates need to prepare when applying for work permit?
A:
Expatiates need to prepare the following materials:
  • Over two years of working experience proofing document
  • Certified diploma certificate for the highest level of degree obtained
  • Certified no criminal record certificate or good conduct certificate
  • Health check report
  • Employment contract in Chinese version
  • Passport with valid period of more than 6 months
  • Electronic version of passport-size photo shot within the latest 6 months
  • Z-visa and China entry record page of the passport
  • Chinese version of documents in foreign language
  • Other documents required

After work permit is obtained, are there any other procedures to be taken by the expatriate?
A:
Yes, the expatriate needs to apply for work-related residence permit with entry and exit administration bureau.

Q:
How long does it take for residence permit application?
A:
It takes 7 working days for officers from entry and exit administration bureau to approve and issue the work-related residence permit if the materials submitted are complete and satisfy with the requirements.

Is physical presence of the foreigner required for application of residence permit?
A:
Yes, foreigner shall meet with the officers from entry and exit administration bureau in person.

Can expatriates work in Beijing buy real estate in Beijing?
A:
Yes, expatriates holding working or journalist type visa in China can purchase one residential real estate for personal use if they have no property in China.

What preparations need to be made by foreigners before purchasing real estate in Beijing?
A:
Expatriates need to prepare the following documents and handle the real estate procurement eligibility assessment. After approval is granted, expatriates can formally proceed the real estate procurement procedures:
  • Original and photocopies of identity certification of family members (if married)
  • Original and photocopies of marriage certificate (if married)
  • Valid passport of the foreigner applicant
  • Notarized Chinese version of passport of all family members
  • Duly signed real estate procurement application form and letter of commitment

As policies change irregularly in Beijing, please be advised to check with the real estate agency for latest policies before the house procurement.

How long does it take for the house purchasing eligibility assessment?
A:
It takes 10 working days for Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban -Rural Development and Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau to review and approve the qualification.
