What is Work Permit for Foreign Worker in Singapore?
A: Singapore Work Permit (“WP”) allows semi-skilled foreign workers from approved source countries to work in certain sectors such as Construction, Manufacturing, Marine Shipyard, Process and Services.

Q:
What are the eligibility requirements for the WP application?
A:
The eligibility requirements are as below:
1.
There is no minimum qualifying salary required.
2. Work Permit requirements vary by industry.
3. The minimum age for all non-domestic foreign workers is 18 years old.
4. Employers are limited by a quota for their industry and have to pay a monthly levy for each worker.
5. The company must buy and maintain medical insurance for the WP holders. The insurance coverage must be at least S$15,000.00 per year and cover inpatient care and day surgery, including hospital bills for conditions that may not be work related.

Q:
How long does it take to process the WP application?
A:
The application takes up to one (1) week to be processed for most cases. It may take longer when additional documents are required by the Ministry of Manpower (“MOM”).

Q:
Does the employer subject to quota and levy when hiring WP holder?
A:
Yes. Employers are limited by a quota for their industry and have to pay a monthly levy for each worker.

How long is the duration of WP and is it renewable?
A:
The duration of WP is up to 2 years, depending on the validity of the worker’s passport, security bond and employment period. The WP is renewable and it is usually valid for 2 years.
