10 Key Points of Entry Requirements for Foreign Nationals Entering China

  1. Visa-free Entry Country List‌

Ordinary passport holders from 50 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, Canada, the United Kingdom, etc., can enter China visa-free for business, tourism, family visits and other activities, with a single stay of no more than 30 days. The policy is continuously updated, please check the latest list before travel.

  2. Transit Visa-free Period Extended to 10 Days

Passengers from 55 countries with connecting air tickets can apply for 240-hour (10-day) transit visa-free entry at 65 designated ports. Their activities can cover multiple provinces, and this policy applies to tourism and short-term business. Major ports such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen are all applicable.

  3. Visa Type Must Match the Purpose of Visit‌

Visa categories such as tourism (L), business (M), work (Z), study (X) cannot be mixed. Engaging in work or long-term residence with a tourist visa is illegal, which will lead to deportation and entry bans.

  4. Invitation Letters Must Be Authentic and Verifiable

Enterprises that issue invitation letters for foreign nationals shall be responsible for the authenticity of the content. False invitations will result in visa rejection. The enterprise may be subject to a fine ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 yuan, and the responsible individuals will face personal penalties.

  5. Report Changes to Residence Permit Within 10 Days‌

Where information on a foreign national’s residence permit (e.g., employer entity, residential address) changes, the holder must report such changes to the local Exit-Entry Administration Department of the Public Security Bureau within 10 calendar days. Failure to comply may adversely affect the credit record.

  6. Illegal Employment is Prohibited‌

Persons who have not obtained a work permit and work-type residence permit shall not engage in any paid work in China, including part-time jobs, internships, online remote services, etc. Violators will be punished and included in the entry blacklist.

  7. Passport Validity Must Cover the Entire Stay Period‌

Upon entry, the passport shall be valid for no less than 6 months, and the validity period of the visa/residence permit shall not exceed the validity period of the passport. Entry will be denied for holders of expired passports.

  8. Cooperate with Electronic Data Inspection‌

Immigration authorities have the right to require the provision of electronic data such as itineraries, hotel reservations, company certificates, and capital flows. Refusal to cooperate or provision of false information may result in entry denial or cancellation of residence qualification.

  9. Strict Control Over Technology Export‌

Core technical personnel in fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biomedicine, etc., must complete compliance review in advance if they carry controlled technical materials out of the country, otherwise they may be restricted from leaving the country.

  10. Serious Consequences for Overstay‌

Illegal residence will result in a fine, and may lead to administrative detention of 5 to 15 days, as well as a 1 to 5-year entry ban. Do not delay departure on the grounds of "waiting for visa renewal".
