5 Ways to Apply for Taiwanese Naturalization for Hong Kong and Macau Residents

Hong Kong people’s inquiries about immigrating to Taiwan have soared, and Taiwan has even become the most preferred destination for Hong Kong people to immigrate in Asia.   1. Investment Immigration

    Hong Kong and Macau people who intend to do business in Taiwan and immigrate to Taiwan can choose investment immigration. The applicant must invest TWD 6 million, which is approx. HKD 1.5 million, in Taiwan. Investment can be made by establishing a new company, purchasing a company or investing in an existing company. After examination, a residence permit can be obtained.

    By living in Taiwan for one year continuously and leaving Taiwan for no more than 30 days during the period or living in Taiwan for more than 270 days each year for two consecutive years, also the invested company requires to operate for 3 years, filing for tax, and at least hiring 2 local employees, if the investor meets the above conditions, he can apply naturalization in Taiwan, and obtain a Taiwan ID card.

  2. Entrepreneurial Immigration

    To immigrate by way of entrepreneurship, besides obtaining a high school degree or above, one of the following conditions must also be met:
    • Received domestic and foreign venture capital, business investment, or raised more than TWD 2 million from an international fundraising platform recognized by the government Taiwan dollars, or about HKD 520,000;
    • Approved to enter the innovation industry parks or incubators recognized by the Taiwan government;
    • Obtain patent rights in Taiwan and abroad, or have professional skills;
    • Have been a well-known entrepreneur, winner of a design competition, winner of an important film festival, or have applied to the government to encourage foreign entrepreneurs to come to Taiwan. The plan of the project is approved;
    • Set up a business that conforms to the " Directions of Recognition for Startups with Innovation Capability ", act as the person in charge of the business, and invest TWD 1 million, that is, about HKD 260,000 or more.
    • The Taiwan government recognizes or recommends those with innovative ability.

  3. Skilled Immigration

    Applicants must have professional and technical ability, and have obtained relevant certificates for practicing in Hong Kong, or have special achievements in academic, scientific, cultural, journalism, finance, insurance, securities, futures, transportation, postal services, telecommunications, meteorology or tourism.

  4. Study

    After Hong Kong and Macau students graduate from higher education in Taiwan, the Taiwan government will adopt the "rating quota system" to approve the work qualifications of Hong Kong and Macau students to stay in Taiwan by scoring, including 8 items such as academic qualifications, national and foreign language proficiency, and growth experience in other countries, as long as the score reaches 70. points, in order to be allowed to work in Taiwan.

    Applicants must have lived in Taiwan for 5 consecutive years and have lived in Taiwan for more than 183 days each year, and the monthly salary in the 5th year has exceeded the average monthly income in Taiwan in the most recent year. Those who have exceeded twice the basic salary announced by the central labour authority can apply for settlement, to obtain a Taiwan ID card.

  5. Dependents

    Dependents are referring lineal relative by blood (including spouses). If the above-mentioned relatives hold a Taiwan identity card, they can apply for dependent residence and obtain the right of residence in accordance with this provision. After applying for the right of stay, you can live in Taiwan continuously for one year, and each time leaving Taiwan for less than 30 days; or staying in Taiwan for more than 270 days each year within two consecutive years.
