Q:
When should the employment, dependants and study visa holders apply the extension of stay in Hong Kong?
A: In general, non-permanent residents may apply for extension of stay in the Hong Kong within 4 weeks before their limit of stay expires.

Q:
How long does it take for application of extension?
A:
In general, the application of extension of stay will be approved by Immigration Department at the same day of submission if the visa status of the applicant is remains unchanged. In case additional supporting documents have been requested by the Immigration Department, it will normally be finalised within two to three weeks upon receipt of all necessary documents.

Q:
What are the eligibility criteria for application of extension of stay in Hong Kong?
A:
The application can only be considered when the applicant’s status remains unchanged from the time he/she acquired his/her current visa.

Q:
Which supporting documents/forms would be required by applicant for extension of stay?
A:
The required documents include:
1.
Original and photocopy of the applicant’s valid travel document and, where applicable, his/her previous travel document page showing the latest visa/entry permit label/arrival stamp/landing slip/extension of stay label;
2. Photocopy of the applicant’s Hong Kong identity card;
3. Completed form ID 91;
4. Supporting letter from the current employer stating the applicant’s position, total monthly remuneration and period of employment; and
5. Completed form ID 990B and supporting documents of Employing company if the employment changed.

Q:
Can I appoint a representative person to submit the application of extension and collect the visa label by him/her?
A:
Yes. The applicant can authorise a representative in writing to submit the application if the applicant attendance in person is not possible. However, the applicant must be in Hong Kong on the date of application submission and on the date of collection of visa label.
